Natural Architecture

'fog pad' by n architects, 2004

CANOPY - MoMA/P.S.1 YOUNG ARCHITECTS PROGRAM 2004

Canopy was a temporary structure in the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center's courtyard, built out of freshly cut green bamboo poles that turned from green to tan throughout the summer. The project relies on a singular tectonic system to bind together provisions for overhead shade, seating and varying atmospheres, resulting in what the architects envisage as a 'deep landscape' that affects the entire depth of the courtyard. Pinches in the bamboo lattice produce a range of shadow densities and patterns across the courtyard and throughout the day. Dips in the canopy define rooms open to the sky, each with a distinct climatic environment for different modes and scales of lounging: Pool Pad, the largest outdoor room, incorporates a wading pool; Fog Pad consists of fog nozzles that spread a cool halo of mist; Rock Pad is a dry elevated region of gravel, Meeting Pad provides an intimate seat for five, Rainforest features a sound environment and water misters that provide intermittent rain showers; and Sand Hump's half open ellipse orients itself to maximize exposure to sun and shade.

no physically or fully blocked walls?

can a wall or dividing be defined by the different height or physical boundary but no visual limit..?

Grade moved an architectural framework into the landscape, placing the structure of a built space in the forest. this 'confronted space' mimics the plan of the interior gallery in the middle of the forest, producing a layered environment of the various structures.

concept

as 'separate' or 'isolate' has a negative meaning...
"Co-Existence without being interruped"
- Natural Landscape (cliff) & Artificial/man made structure (Storey Bridge) exists together in a same space without interrupting eachother.
- people using this building/facility and people passing by visually experience the same in the same space 'Howard Smith Warves' but still no one blocks the other's way or intrerruped.
- this can be expressed simply with different height or a wall

windows/glazing inside of the O-Museum, provide views over Ogasawara Shion fron the entrance hall and panoramic views of Izukino Sato down below from the rest area. as the visitor wanders around looking at the exhibited projects, views of the surrounding ruins are also in site. through them, the whole environment of the site can be experienced as an exhibition space.
ELcroquis '99', Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa, 1995-2000, P.129

this could explain my concept the part there's a physical boundary (you are inside) and through the window(boundary) you can still experience the outside without interacting with other users outside.

Dominus Winery

HERZOG & DE MEURON, DOMINUS WINERY, CALIFORNIA
the skin of the building is made of wire mesh containing locally quarried stone which made the building blend into the surrounding landscape(winery) as well as impact with the colour contrast green(winery) to black(building).
natural marteral brings natural wind, sun and existing surrounding into the building.

using natural marterial from the site, it gives the idea of the building co-existed with the sorrounding as well as the atmosphere such as sun wind smell can be experienced from the inside of the building without getting outside. the building is co-existing with evironment.

boundary no boundary

photo explains what i'm trying to do on my project and is how the folie started..

there is a physical boundary but that boundary dosen't  finish where it is, the viewer still can experience / see through over the boundary.
